Professor Jay Dee Brunner, president of the Marion Business College, was born in Stratford, Canada, October 5, 1861. ![]() Brunner in the project, they began working under the name Indiana Business College and eventually embraced thirteen business colleges in the Hoosier State. Many of the prominent businessmen of Marion received their training under the instruction of Mr. Brunner became the sole proprietor in 1896, conducting the institution with his wife until 1902 (History of Grant County, Indiana). The Marion Business College began its operations in the Columbian Block immediately after the completion of the structure. Charles willed the Columbian Block to his alma mater, DePauw University. He was also associated with the Hoosier Stove Company, and several family-owned businesses in Grant County. He was a prominent real estate agent, managing several fanns. He was engaged in many different organizations throughout his life. Charles first held his offices in the building in the year of 1900. John Charles resided in the building longer than any other. Of the many occupants of the Columbian Block, Philip St. During the time of the move, the company changed its name to the Hoosier Stove Company in honor of its famous product the Hoosier Stove (Grant County and Who’s Who). After operating out of the Columbian Block for five years, the company was moved to its much larger location at the corner of 26th Street and Adams under the management of W.J. The main floor was used as the retail department and had a complete line of kitchen utensils, bathroom fixtures, and the largest line of stoves and ranges in the state. The store fully occupied the two floors and basement of the Columbian Block to conduct their large amount of business (Grant County and Who’s Who).
